When Customers Leave Your Tile Showroom Empty-Handed

You run a tile showroom. A customer walks in at 11am on a Tuesday. He says, “I want to see Asian Granito’s new 600x1200 marble-look series.”

You don’t have it on display. Maybe you have a small sample in the back. Maybe you try to steer him toward a similar range from another brand you stock more of.

He nods. He leaves. He doesn’t come back.

That’s not just a lost sale. That’s a lost customer who will tell three other people.

The real cost isn’t the missing stock. It’s the missing trust.

Customers Come Prepared

When a customer names a specific brand like Asian Granito, Simpolo, or Kajaria, he’s already done his homework. He saw an ad, a friend’s house, or a contractor’s recommendation. He walked into your showroom expecting to see that range, touch it, and compare it with others.

If you don’t have it on display, you’re telling him: “I don’t stock what you want. I’ll sell you what I have.”

He hears: “You don’t matter.”

He leaves. Next stop is the showroom two kilometres down the road that has the full Vermora or Somany display. He buys there. He never comes back to yours.

That one walk-in could have been a ₹1.5 lakh order. But the real loss is the referral chain. A tile buyer talks to his brother, his neighbour, his contractor. One unhappy experience kills five future walk-ins.

Wasting Your Staff’s Time

Your salesmen spend 20 minutes trying to convince a customer to look at a different brand. They pull out catalogues. They explain why this H&R Johnson or RAK series is “just as good.” The customer is not convinced. He leaves.

That 20 minutes could have been spent closing a ready buyer for CERA or Nitco. Instead, it was wasted on a customer who was never going to buy what you pushed.

You are paying your staff to lose customers.

It’s About Knowing What to Display

You can’t stock every range from every brand — Asian Granito, Orientbell, Simpolo, Kajaria, Somany, Vermora, CERA, RAK, Nitco, H&R Johnson. That’s impossible for a single showroom.

But you can know what every walk-in wants before he walks in. You can track which brands and sizes are asked for most. You can display the top 20% of demand and keep digital catalogues for the rest.

Imagine knowing: “70% of my customers ask for Asian Granito and Kajaria. I need to display those ranges. The rest I can show on a tablet.”

You stop guessing. You stop losing customers because you didn’t have the right tile on the wall.

Make your showroom a place where customers find what they want. The customer sees what he came for. You close the sale. He tells his brother.

That’s the real cost of ignoring what your customer asks for. And the real profit of listening.
